Mathematics
At Concord Road Elementary School, our vision is to nurture confident mathematicians who are prepared to meet the challenges of a dynamic world. Aligned with the Next Generation Learning Standards (2017), our mission is to provide an inclusive, student-centered learning environment that emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving in mathematics. Our instructional approach prioritizes the development of essential mathematical skills such as fluency, problem-solving, reasoning, and application. Through a variety of ongoing assessment routines—including diagnostic, formative, and summative evaluations—we ensure that students are continuously monitored and supported to achieve academic success and develop the skills for lifelong learning.
Guided by the Next Generation Learning Standards (2017), our K-4 classrooms utilize Investigations 3, a comprehensive math program that fosters deep understanding through inquiry-based learning. Students explore key skills such as number sense, geometry, measurement, and data analysis through hands-on activities, discussions, and collaborative problem-solving. Our focus on conceptual understanding over rote memorization ensures students build a strong foundation, empowering them to reason, communicate their thinking, and make meaningful connections across mathematical domains. Assessment routines in Investigations 3 include performance tasks, game-based explorations, self-assessments, and frequent formative checks, enabling teachers to track progress and adjust instruction based on individual needs.
For our Special Class programs, we use the enVision Mathmatics program, which provides differentiated and individualized instruction tailored to the needs of diverse learners. This resource focuses on key math skills such as basic computation, reasoning, and visual problem-solving, offering a range of visual, interactive, and hands-on approaches to engage students with different learning styles. The program’s assessment routines include quick checks, adaptive assessments, and teacher observations, which guide instruction to meet each student’s unique learning profile. Through enVision Mathmatics, we are committed to fostering an accessible and inclusive math environment where every student can develop confidence, independence, and mastery at their own pace.
