Making Global Connections Through Author Visit

Making Global Connections Through Author Visit

Thanks to the generous funding from the PTSA, our CRS third graders were delighted to welcome author and photographer Jan Reynolds for a special visit on Tuesday, May 19.

One of Ms. Reynolds' many accomplishments include her publication of the "Vanishing Cultures" narrative nonfiction book series. Through this series, she shared stories of her travels around the world. Our students learned about her deep interest in the indigenous people she encountered, and their diverse cultural backgrounds. Her presentation highlighted the important reminder that we are all so much more similar than different as "one human family".

Students also learned how the indigenous communities live in harmony with the environment and discussed ways we can all live more sustainably to protect the planet.

Ms. Reynolds' visit perfectly complemented the third-grade year-long social studies focus on cultural backgrounds and our ongoing conversations around what it means to be a global citizen.
