Earth Day Sparks Action at Concord Road
Students at Concord Road Elementary School gathered on April 22 to mark Earth Day with an assembly focused on protecting the planet, exploring renewable energy and making everyday choices that support the environment.
Held in the school gymnasium and emceed by teacher Kathryn Cavalieri, the event brought together students, staff, and faculty to reflect on this year’s Earth Day theme and the importance of environmental stewardship. Organized with help from the student council, the music department, and teachers, the program aimed to inspire students to take an active role in caring for the Earth beyond just one day of celebration.
Student council members presented on the importance of using renewable energy sources to reduce pollution and combat climate change. Second-grader Vivian Misra shared her Biography Bottle project on Wangari Maathai, founder of the Green Belt Movement, which has planted over 51 million trees in Kenya to combat deforestation.
The music department led students in singing "This Pretty Planet," and teachers also guided discussions about practical ways students can help preserve the planet in their daily lives.
The assembly concluded with a call to action, suggesting ten simple ways they can help keep the planet a healthy, beautiful place.
