CRS Celebrates International Day with “Play Around the World”

CRS Celebrates International Day with “Play Around the World”

On Friday, May 23, Concord Road School transformed its gym into a global playground, where students rotated through interactive stations to learn and play traditional games from 16 countries as part of this year’s International Day celebration.

Themed Play Around the World, the event offered students hands-on opportunities to experience the universal nature of play, highlighting how children across cultures connect, communicate, and build community through games. The day also reinforced Concord Road’s commitment to fostering empathy, curiosity, and global awareness through meaningful cultural exploration.

Organized by school faculty, staff and administration, and supported by the PTSA, the event was shaped by a new vision from Social Studies Curriculum Leader Jill Rogovic and District Equity Leader Nanesha Nunez. Students visited a range of stations where they tried games from countries including Bangladesh, Canada, China, the Dominican Republic, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Myanmar (Burma), Pakistan, the Philippines, Scotland, South Korea, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe.

Parent volunteers guided students, demonstrated games and shared the background of each activity. Many also created poster displays explaining the historical and cultural roots of the games and helped students make the most of the engaging experience.

“This year’s International Day was more than just fun and games—it helped our students build connections across cultures and develop skills like respect and teamwork that will serve them throughout their lives,” said Principal Vidya Bhat. “I want to thank everyone involved for their role in making this event an exciting and meaningful learning event for our students,” she added.

The day reflected broader goals supported by UNICEF and others who emphasize play as a vital way for children to develop life skills such as self-confidence, collaboration, and inclusion. What a wonderful example of how a school community can elevate a long-standing tradition.
